E. Keith Henry, president of Asia Strategy, founded the firm in 1996 with a philosophy of providing clients with practical, fact-based policy and business analysis and advocacy programs that assist them to overcome obstacles and take advantage of opportunities presented by Japan’s fluid public policy and business environment. In 2006, Asia Strategy acquired the resources of the Ohara Institute of Finance and the Economy to provide a broader range of research and advisory services.

Of particular note is the Association of National Trusts in Japan, a citizen's movement that aims to protect open spaces of historical and environmental significance by acquiring these spaces through purchase or donation and then preserving, managing, and opening these assets to the public to ensure that they can be passed on to future generations.
